Homeopathy - is it a con? · 4 October 2005
Perhaps I am a little blinkered where my faith in God and health is concerned but I cannot take on aspects that appear to be against God or that I don’t understand. Years and years ago a Christian friend pointed out that Aromatherapy and Aerobics could be considered against God. This upset me terribly and I gave up the studying of these two subjects because I was concerned that I was going against God. Then I had a thought about it and went into what it actually was and realised that aromatherapy had been made into an ethereal aspect by whoever, to sell it. It actually is simply another way of delivering herbs, making perfumes (people stank in those hot countries) and preserving, and God gave us the flowers and herbs for our use. The same with aerobics, just another form of exercise and exercise is good for us. Both oils and exercise is mentioned in the bible and so from that point of view as well I was happy to take up the study of them again – I had only missed a few weeks or so.

I have looked into homeopathy and what it is. The theory is that it is a poison that gives off the same symptoms as the sufferer and is so diluted that the body can cope with fighting the poison without being poisoned, and produces anti-bodies – these anti-bodies are then used by the body to fight the original symptoms. That is the theory and that theory is used the world over with some herbs and substances even food. Smallpox vaccine is used in this way. We all know that herbs can help us but too much can make us ill.
But what exactly is in the homeopathic remedy? And why did someone invent a new therapy and call it homeopathy when he could have simply used herbs, minerals and vitamins and food?
We are made to think that homeopathy offers a more powerful cure than herbs alone. That theory was how witch-doctors in Africa operated. They often used herbs to heal but to keep their patients believing in them they employed mysticism too and psychology and fear, just in case the herbs didn’t work and they lost respect. More unscrupulous ‘witch’ doctors practised the mysticism, psychology and fear more than the herbs to maintain their power and influence of their tribe.
It is the same story since time began with any money making or power making schemes – inciting fear and mysticism to keep the punter coming. The Catholic Church came into being in exactly the same way. To control and exert the power over the new Christians that it was rapidly losing, the Roman Empire became the Catholic Church and introduced buildings for the believers to practice their faith in and demanded money for the upkeep of the buildings and the leaders. (Who later became the bishops and priests we know today) They introduced mysticism which has nothing to do with the bible.
The medics did the same, especially the Harley Street doctors; they used it to keep their patients buying their medicines and treatments. In the past I can remember sitting in my GP’s surgery and been told what was wrong with me or my child in enormous medical terms so that I didn’t understand, in the mistaken belief that I would still respect them because I wouldn’t know if they had got it wrong or not. It was all a ploy to keep us employed with our GP. It is not so common now due to malpractice suits and the public wanting to know the truth.
My thoughts are that medicine is how anyone can make money, it is such big business and the human being is always seeking after optimum health. So if anyone can invent a new therapy to heal, they will make money. Enter homeopathy and bach flower remedies.
Bach flower remedies are just a fancy way of drinking a herbal tea! How Mr Bach worked out which flower would heal which condition is suspect to say the least! He apparently felt the condition as he passed the flower! Really! We had a talk about it at a meeting I went to and that is what we were told! The flower is picked at noon in full sun and put into spring water and left in the sun for an hour or so. (A fancy fresh herbal tea I thought to myself!) It is then strained and the water is diluted with brandy (the brandy is a used to preserve the water). It is then diluted again and I am not sure of the percentages. In the past I have used the rescue remedy myself and immediately felt calm, in fact exactly the same feeling I have had when I have drunk any alcohol!
Homeopathy has the same dubious beginnings. Someone decided to use known elements but in diluted form but so diluted that no scientist can find anything in the dilution.
[Herbs, minerals and vitamins work best when they are with all the elements they are grown with and the reason that the government find it difficult to allow these natural substances full use in medical circles is because all compounds have to be defined as to what they are and what action they have in the body. There are the known compounds of a plant which have been tested to show the action they have on the body but alongside these compounds are elements known as trace elements that defy analysis. It is these trace elements that have been found to support the action of the compounds. It is for this reason why natural substances work better and safer in the body than compounds taken away from their natural counterparts and used in stronger proportions to create a more powerful substance.]
All herbal substances have what the scientists describe as trace elements. These are elements that they can see are there but defy analysis. So the EU and the government want to allow only those herbs and vitamins to be sold where they can define all the properties in them. As they cannot define the trace elements, the herb may not be allowed to be sold. Also as the herb will have many properties it will be a very expensive process to define and register each component and so will price the herb out of the marketplace. (This keeps going before the EU parliament and so far so good the act hasn’t been passed yet)
The scientists when investigating homeopathic remedies cannot even find trace elements in the product. They cannot find anything at all. So I wonder to myself what it is exactly that is curing people when they use homeopathic treatment. If it works as a placebo effect then perhaps it is not such a bad thing although it is a very elaborate and successful money making scheme and a terrible con at the very least!
Christians have said that homeopathy alongside other complimentary therapies is occultism. But fear made Christians say that of herbalists in the middle ages and burned them as witches. I don’t want to be accused of being a witch hunter, so I look at the bible first and then science. (The two don’t always agree, and in the event they don’t agree I go with the Bible.)
I can understand herbs and I am sure it says in the bible that God gave us the herbs for our use. I can see with Bach flower remedies that it is a marketing ploy. And I really think that homeopathy is along the same marketing ploy lines. It is just a gimmick. Why some people feel better when taking homeopathy treatments, I don’t know (apart from the placebo effect and the strong belief in the Homeopathist themselves and a will to want it to work) but I do know that there are many people who have tried homeopathy and stopped it again because they were put through some terrible symptoms and never got to the feeling much improved stage.
Homeopathists will tell you that the treatment will bring out the very symptoms they are trying to heal but after a while you will feel better. Again this is along the lines of other treatments with the no pain no gain theory which is fast losing its popularity.
Just to tie up my theorising: Homeopathy uses several theories which play upon the individual’s mind.
One: people will pay a lot of money to be well.
Two: fear (mysticism as well) blackmails people into using the substance.
Three: no pain, no gain. (This statement is not true.)

Best of the Web!

I would like to comment on the following statement of your article :

“Homeopathy doesn’t cure disease, they act to increase the vitality of a human being, which has been damaged, and the person is not able to fight against diseases. Once swallowed, homeopathic medicines cannot be traced in bodies (where it acts and how it acts) they act on spiritual level. The effect of STRESS, being the major cause of so many diseases, cannot be evaluated; after what duration and with how much stress and what organ of body can be affected. ” Few natures naturals are not meant to be proved but they are to be experienced like the air, heat of sun etc. that’s why some people feel better when taking homeopathy treatments.
This is an endless debate of what, why and how but for one thing is certain and that is no science is complete Failure is never final, as success is never ending. Nothing lasts forever and if homeopathy had been nothing, it could not survive for more than 150 years.

Anju

Thank you very much for your comments. I am sorry but what you have said has done nothing to change my opinion but to further confirm it. You saying that it is spiritually based concerns me, I haven’t heard any homeopathist mention this when they are dispensing their treatments, and the aspect of spirituality is not written on the homeopathic products that can be bought over the counter in chemists or health food shops. Isn’t that misleading?

i have not only had success with homeopathy but as a result of this success am dedicating my time and effort to understand the process more and become a homeopath myself not to make money but to help others and myslef to live better more healthier lives. My personnal experiance with homeopathy has lead to cures in Scabies mite, hepatitis, dysentry, parasitic infections, all of which i picked up in india… all of which are impossible to heal through PLACEBO.. and all of which i was told be the medical profression whould need medical intervention..in some cases with the use of increadable stong pharacuticals. I also use it to manage other cronic afflictions which in time with correct treatment im sure will also be cured. To have a good experiance of homeopathy u need to find a good homeopath.. i sugets u try it before u make snap ill informed judgements and post them for all to read.. As to weather or not it is christian i find it somewhat resistricive and medievil to think that any form of medicine is the devils work and am gald that the world has moved on for most ppl.
Homepathy is a blessing that has chaged the lives and circumstances of many ppl espechally those who cannot afford western medicine and those who cant be helped by it.
i appologise if this reply is somewhat strongly worded but i feel u should be aware of ure error it critisising something, which from reading ure article, u obviously know nothing about

I am pleased for you that you have found a therapy that works for you. I have researched Homeopathy and it is a sad fact that with all my research I have not found any book or anyone (yourself included) who can tell me exactly what it is that is doing the curing. The last comment before yours here, is telling me that it is spiritual – would you agree with that? And if it is spiritual shouldn’t that be put on the labels of homeopathic treatments? I have not tried homeopathy because I will not use anything that I don’t understand. Perhaps you could tell me what it is in the bottles and pills that actually cures the individual?

My question is, why do you have links on your site to homepathy sites? If I may comment, having such links appears to contradict everything in your article.

My understanding of ulcerative colitis and any inflammation of the rectum or anywhere is that food allergies are to blame. Have a blood test, try York Laboratories It is an expense but well worth it. One person who wrote to me was told by her GP that she had to give up work, she had already gone part-time and the company she worked for were getting fed-up with her continued absenses and she couldn’t get the promotion she wanted. Following my advice, she gave up certain foods, is pain free (hopefully inflammation free) and now works full time and has gained her promotion. I hope this helps you and apologies for the confusions between my articles and the adverts!

Homeopathy cures where Conventional Allopathic Medicine (CAM) fails
— Dr. Nancy Malik Sep 14, 10:13 AM #
Hi Dr Nancy Malik
Really?
Homeopathy cures? You have clinical evidence, I take it?
CAM stands for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. I presume you also have clinical evidence that Complementary and Alternative Medicine fails? My experience and that of thousands of others is that CAM depending what it is, does not fail.
