Homeopathy - the Government's hypocracy · 1 September 2006

An executive agency of the Department of HealthThe Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency will allow some homeopathic remedies to be registered.

Some time ago, last year I think it was there was an EU move to standardise herbal medicines and to reduce high dosage. If it had been passed, it would mean that many valuable herbal and vitamin supplements would be taken out of the consumer’s shopping basket.

However because a herb contains multiple visible elements as well as trace elements it would have been very costly to analyse making the product very expensive.

And until technology designs the equipment to quantify the trace elements, they defy analyse and so the supplement would not pass the EU legislation. Thankfully the movement was not passed except to NOT allow any herbal manufacturer to state what the action of the herb can do and to ensure that their labelling was clear stating that what they said was in the capsule or tablet or bottle was actually in there.

Recently I reported on Citricidal which is described in other countries as a natural antibiotic, and an extract from grapefruit seeds apparently and its generic term is grapefruit seed extract. Now if the EU regulation had have been passed then citricidal would have been given the boot immediately. Not only is it from all the pulp etc from used grapefruits, it doesn’t have an antibiotic bone in its make-up. It is the chemical used to extract the extract (which is what exactly?) from the pulp that is antibiotic.

And we all know that the active substance in homeopathic preparations is diluted so many thousands of times that science cannot find even a trace or illusion of it.

So how come our Government’s Department of Health have now allowed homeopathic preparations to advertise the condition homeopathic remedies purport to heal?

Just last year, every UK Natural Health organisation had to change all its labelling so that nothing was advertised describing what area of the body the health company said the herb or supplement would support. They also had to make absolutely certain that what they said was in the product was in there and fully list all ingredients. How are homeopathic remedies meant to comply with that?

Read Stephen Barrett MD’s report ‘Homeopathy the ulitimate fake’ in Quack Watch report.

There are several issues here:
Homeopathy as a remedy.
The Government and its hypocracy.
Labelling and the health care industry in general.

Let me know your thoughts.
