How can there be a God, with all the suffering in the world? · 28 May 2006
I am often asked this question and often the questioner doesn’t want to hear the answer. Their mind is made up, to them it is obvious, there is no God because their idea of God would not allow the terrible evil and suffering that is in the world.
It is a cop out of-course. They don’t want to know the answer to the question above because if they heard the answer, they would have to admit their own part to the cause of the suffering in the world.
If I made a cake and gave it to you what sort of gift would it be if I told you whether you could eat it or not? ‘You can have this cake but don’t eat it, don’t share it with anyone, put it in a glass case and cover it up from the light. That way it will be preserved and the air and light can’t spoil it.’ You would wonder why on earth I had bothered to make the cake and give it to you in the first place wouldn’t you?
So it is with God. He made man and He made the earth and everything in it and He gave it to us and so that we had free reign with His gift, He gave us free-will, to make our own choices.
We have caused the evil in the world, by our choices.
When God made us and made the world, He also gave us advice on how to live in the world and how to make informed choices. We chose to ignore Him and the result is the evil in the world.
Be warned, there is a God and He didn’t give His gift of life to us without the consequences that follow when we haven’t trusted in Him. There are consequences to the choices we made and make, when we make them without God. Read them in His book the Bible
