I was asked: Why are you a Christian? · 21 April 2006
Someone asked me why I was a Christian.
I said: ‘Do you really want me to answer that?’
I was thinking that this was going to be a long involved answer and didn’t think he would want to listen to the rigmarole.
He said: ‘No.’
Probably because he could sense it was going to be a long drawn out answer and didn’t have the brain space for the rigmarole.
Later I thought about it.
Why am I a Christian?
Is it to assure a place in Heaven?
No. (but that is reassuring)
Is it to lead a happy life?
No. (but it does help towards a happier and more peaceful and less stressful life-style)
Is it to be as good as possible?
No. (definitely not! I realise now how bad I can be! The point of this part of Christianity is that God totally understands my mistakes and totally without reservation forgives me when I ask Him)
I am a christian because at last life makes sense.
